The first stage is to use chemicals known as permanents, which first chemically break the bonds connecting the proteins that make up the hair. At this stage you can apply a wave or other shape to the hair while it is malleable. Finally, the hair's protein bonds are restored to fix it in the new shape. Both permanent waves and straight permanents operate under this same principle.
The condition of the separated faces that remain after the protein chain is cut by chemicals is very important. If the surfaces are cut unevenly, they do not line up well when they are reconnected later on. In the body, when you cut yourself with a sharp knife, the wound tends to heal better than when you cut yourself with a blunt knife. The situation is similar with permanents. One thing that makes Repair special is its use of a permanent chemical that allows it to cut the cystine bonds very cleanly. The straight permanents of the past could not achieve the same clean cuts.
After cleanly cutting the cystine bonds, Repair reconstructs the hair in a straight shape at the cellular level, and uses an iron to make the new shape part of the "memory" of the hair. This is how Repair creates beautiful, straight hair. The keys to the process are the permanent chemical used by Repair, the iron that fixes the straight shape into memory at 356F, the P.P.T. By supplementing proteins to the hair as the permanent is applied, the Repair makes hair to health. P.P.T. includes collagen, keratin, silk protain, and other proteins that are naturally present in hair. These proteins penetrate the hair and repair the damage.

The last stage of Repair is Treatment. Phiten's Treatment does not contain any coating chemicals, since no matter how much you cover the cuticle with coating chemicals, it doesn't make the hair any healthier. How is it possible to cut the cystine bond so cleanly? What makes it possible to iron the hair at 356°F with so little damage? The secret is Phiten's unique process.
